WHY THIS BOOK?

WHY THIS BOOK?

There are already numerous books about CMMI on the market from which to choose, so why choose this one? What sets it apart from other books? Here’s what you’ll find different in these pages:

There are many myths about CMMI and its implementation. Some books perpetuate these myths. This book debunks and destroys process improvement myths that too often inhibit people’s work and progress. This book exposes CMMI myths by shining the harsh light of fact on them. People who benefit from perpetuating those myths are going to be very angry with me. Ah, sweet success.

I eventually pulled my head out of my process; you can too! And when you do, you’ll discover, as I did, that there are many industries and disciplines from which you can borrow good concepts and practices and apply them to your CMMI process improvement work. The Software Engineering Institute (SEI) didn’t invent process improvement, and it’s folly to think that software and systems engineering process improvement wouldn’t exist without CMMI. This book tells you why, what, and how.

This book in no way pretends to have all the answers or solutions; no book can, despite the claims made by its author or publisher. But what this book will do, more so than any other, is help you learn how to formulate the important questions about process improvement that will then lead you to the answers. Questions are good, and this book is chock full of them.
